Farley to Gillibrand: Dairy Deal 'Trumps' 2020 Politics

U.S. Senate candidate Chele Farley (R, C, Reform) today called on Kirsten Gillibrand to set her 2020 Presidential ambitions aside and stand up for New York's automobile industry, winemakers and dairy producers who are in a state of crisis, and support the updates to NAFTA in the new "USMCA" trade pact.

"The question is simple: Will Kirsten Gillibrand set aside the rhetoric and the 2020 campaigning long enough to stand up for New York jobs," said Farley.

Farley has long agreed with the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA. The flow of goods and services across North America is incredibly complicated and with many products sold today that include parts crafted in all three countries, the agreement was in dire need of a reboot. For example, the quarter-century-old NAFTA deal was ratified in 1994 before Google, Amazon and the general adoption of e-commerce. The updated USMCA agreement sets new rules for automobile production, requires grocery stores in British Columbia to stock American wines and reduces barriers for American dairy farmers to sell their products to Canada.

"As I've said from day one of this campaign, when President Trump or any President enacts policies that are good for New York I will endorse them. The updated NAFTA trade pact is good for New York jobs and deserves bipartisan support," said Farley.

Even in the midst of the rancorous Supreme Court confirmation hearings, New York's senior Senator Chuck Schumer had praise for President Trump and the plan, saying, "As someone who voted against NAFTA and opposed it for many years, I knew it needed fixing. The President deserves praise for taking large steps to improve it."

The new deal could result in more jobs for upstate automobile manufacturers. According to the Wall Street Journal, NAFTA modernization requires that duty-free cars produced in "North America have at least 75 percent of their content produced in the region and 40 percent of their content produced by $16-an-hour labor. Those provisions could lead to more auto production and jobs in the U.S. and Canada."

Concluded Farley, "It's clear Kirsten Gillibrand thinks #MeToo means 'Me First' as she has consistently and shamelessly put politics over people. This needs to end."

Chele Farley is an outsider with over 25 years of experience in the private sector. She is the Republican, Conservative and Reform Party candidate for U.S. Senate.
